MVMA Merit Awards

MVMA Distinguished Service Award

These awards reflect MVMA’s high ideals and recognize those who enhance the profession’s positive image. Help bring attention to the worthy efforts and accomplishments of people in our community: make your nomination by using THIS FORM.

The Advisory Committee will consider all nominations submitted by Friday, February 24, 2017.

The Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious award MVMA confers on a member. The Award was first presented in 1974 to Massachusetts veterinary legend Dr. Cornelius Thibeault, and through the years to other MVMA All-Stars, most recently to Dr. Kathy Reilly this past year at the Celebrate Veterinarians event.

These members have been integral to MVMA’s progress and success;

the DSA is our most visible way to recognize them for their dedication.

Criteria: The Distinguished Service Award may be presented annually to no more than one individual who: is a living MVMA member in good standing; is known for his or her accomplishments to the profession and the association; and has made an outstanding contribution to the service of humankind.

Since 1996, MVMA Merit Awards have recognized a variety of personal and professional contributions by veterinarians and others in the veterinary and animal-caring communities. In addition, there is a Merit Award designated specifically for veterinary technicians to recognize extraordinary work, skills, dedication, and/or contributions to veterinary practice, animal care, or the field of veterinary technology.

Recent recipients include, among others, veterinarians and others honored for their work internationally and for local and state government entities; for advancing animal welfare; for wildlife conservation; and for addressing needs of stray, feral, homeless, and neglected animals.

Criteria: The recipient of a Merit Award need not be a veterinarian or a member of MVMA, but the nominator must be both. Merit Awards recognize contributions in the areas of human-animal companion bond, public relations, colleagues, humane endeavors, animal welfare, and veterinary technology. In most cases, the recipient will be a Massachusetts resident and/or the endeavor will have taken place in Massachusetts.
