Garfield Joins Veterinarians to “Save the Claws”

Witty Campaign Encourages Pet Parents to Chose SoftPaws® Nail Caps for Cats Instead of Declawing

(Phoenix, Ariz., Jan. 19, 2010) — The famously irreverent feline Garfield is now appearing on Soft Paws® Nail Caps for Cats packaging to encourage pet parents to embrace the use of the soft nail caps instead of declawing. A colorful set of tabletop panels featuring Garfield’s instantly recognizable image and sly humor is included for veterinarians’ reception area display.

A humane alternative to declawing, Soft Paws Nail Caps are easily slipped on cats’ claws to prevent scratching damage to drapes, furniture, and floors and held in place with a new Cleat Lock System that helps the nail cap adhere to the nail for a better fitting and longer lasting application. Developed by a veterinarian, Soft Paws, available in a variety of colors and in kitten, small, medium, and large sizes, are so comfortable, cats barely notice them.

With product purchase, the veterinary practice will receive the free Garfield’s “Save the Claws” campaign kit, which includes pet guardian educational brochures, wall posters, and a 3-panel, full-color tabletop display. One panel lists Garfield’s Top 8 Reasons to Use Soft Paws, his humorous take on the benefits of Soft Paws. Veterinarians who sign up for the Garfield campaign will also receive a new poster display each calendar quarter to enhance interest in Soft Paws.

“Enlisting the instantly recognizable Garfield greatly assists veterinarians’ recommendation of the Soft Paws choice to pet parents as a safe, humane alternative to declawing, especially as more cities are banning declawing” says Bruce Muller, product director at SmartHealth (www.smarthealth.com), a company with a 35 year history of providing quality products and services for human and pet health professionals worldwide. “His endorsement gains ready acceptance of the use of Soft Paws...and help promote saving the claws.”
