About the speaker

Len Marcus attended Penn State for his pre-veterinary work and received his VMD in 1962. During the Vietnam War he served in the US Public Health Service at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), where he completed a veterinary pathology residency and later became board certified in that specialty. His work studying animal models for human cardiovascular disease spurred an interest in comparative medicine and led him to decide to become a physician. He received his MD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx and completed an internship in pediatrics at Stanford University and a post-doc fellowship at the Department of Tropical Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. He worked at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health supervising the Parasitology Lab and providing public health consultation on zoonoses like rabies, EEE, babesiosis, and toxoplasmosis. Dr. Marcus was also involved in the planning of the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and was part of the initial faculty. He has written countless publications and has received awards from Tufts and the MVMA, to name a few.  In addition to his dedication to the cause of One Health, he is a passionate dancer and competes in showcases and contests.
