Position Statements

In the Veterinarian's Oath, a pledge made by every veterinarian upon entering the profession and a guideline of the principles of veterinary medicine, veterinarians accept the responsibility to not only protect animal health, but to promote medical knowledge, practice their profession conscientiously, and improve professional knowledge and competence.

The MVMA's Animal Welfare Committee is responsible for establishing the positions of the Association that involve our profession and the animals we treat. The Animal Welfare Committee represents the many diverse aspects of veterinary medicine. From shelter medicine to academics, from large animal to exotics, from small sole practitioners to Board certified specialists, the Animal Welfare Committee is cross section of the Association's membership.
