Emma Marris is an award-winning journalist, environmental writer and author with a Master’s in Science Writing from Johns Hopkins University. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Emma has written about the entanglements between humans and nonhumans for many magazines and newspapers, including National Geographic, Wired, The New York Times, Nature, and The Atlantic. In this talk she will explore some of the questions she examined in her 2021 book, Wild Souls: Freedom and Flourishing in the Non-Human World. Importantly, how do we balance the rights and well-being of individual animals against the needs to conserve rare species when these values conflict?
