In this 3-hour, case-based session, a systematic, step-by-step approach to cytological evaluation will be presented. Recognition of adequate and inadequate samples, and how to ensure the former, as well as identification of patient pathology, via assessment of common neoplasms, selected inflammatory lesions, and lymph node aspirates will be discussed.

Lisa Pohlman, DVM, MS, DACVP

Lisa M. Pohlman, DVM, MS, DACVP, is a professor of clinical pathology at Kansas State University. Dr. Pohlman earned her DVM from University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, and her MS in clinical pathology from Auburn University, where she also completed a residency. She is an active teacher and mentor of veterinary students and has been the recipient of several teaching awards, including the ASVCP Educator Award, the Zoetis Distinguished Teacher Award and the Iman Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching, among others. She enjoys providing CE in clinical pathology through speaking engagements, online courses, and publications. Dr. Pohlman also serves as the president and medical director of the Riley County Humane Society in Manhattan, Kansas. Her research interests include improvement of clinical pathology laboratory methods and identification and characterization of disease in domestic species, particularly in shelter animals, as well as pets owned by individuals who cannot afford routine veterinary care.
