Open MVMA Leadership Positions

Are you interested in getting more involved with organized veterinary medicine? There are several open positions within MVMA leadership we are looking to fill in the next 12 months.

Alternate Delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates: 

This is an 8 year commitment. The Alternate Delegate serves a four-year term, at the conclusion of which they advance to the position of Delegate for a four-year term. The AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) is the principal body within the AVMA responsible for establishing policy and providing direction for matters relating to veterinary medicine. The HOD also discusses and votes on amendments to ByLaws, votes on resolutions, and elects leaders and members of the House Advisory Committee (HAC).

This position requires travel (paid for by AVMA and MVMA), including:

  • AVMA Convention in July (location rotates)
  • NEVMA Leadership Conference in September (Portland, ME)
  • Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) in January (Chicago, IL)

The position is also a member of the MVMA Advisory Committee, which meets for 3 hours (Zoom) on the second Wednesday of March, June, September, and December.

Dr. Martha Smith-Blackmore will complete her term at the AVMA Convention in July 2027. She will be succeeded by Alternate Delegate, Dr. Brie Beberman.

MVMA President-Elect:

This is an 6 year commitment. The President-Elect is a member of the Executive Board and serves a two-year term, at the conclusion of which they advance to the position of President for a two-year term. Following service as President, the person takes on the Immediate Past President role for a final two-year term.

This position requires travel when possible (paid for by MVMA), including:

  • NEVMA Leadership Conference in September (Portland, ME)
  • Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC) in January (Chicago, IL)

 The MVMA Advisory Committee and Executive Board meet from 9:30am - 3:30pm (Zoom) on the second Wednesday of March, June, September, and December.

Dr. Ryan Cooley will complete his term at the MVMA Annual Meeting in May 2027.

MVMA Director:

This is an 2-year commitment, with the opportunity to renew for up to three terms.

The MVMA Advisory Committee and Executive Board meet from 9:30am - 3:30pm (Zoom) on the second Wednesday of March, June, September, and December.

There will be two openings for Director members at the MVMA Annual Meeting in May 2027. There is strong preference for candidates representing large animal/mixed animal practice, exotics or lab animal medicine, and practice owner members for the upcoming slate of officers and directors.
